Peace collects and distributes bags of food to those in need in our congregation and community. Non-members with identification may receive food monthly. Members and frequent visitors may receive food more often. The food shelf is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-11:30am, and some evenings by appointment. Most of the food is contributed by Peace members, although some is collected by area schools and the Boy Scouts. Grab a post-it note on “Sticky Sunday” with items that are needed.
Peace provides a free and delicious hot meal in our Fellowship Hall for approximately 75 people on the fourth Saturday of the month from 5:00-6:00pm. Volunteers are needed at 3:00pm for preparation, to serve food during the meal, and at 6:00pm to clean up and do the dishes. Peace members are also encouraged to come and eat with our guests.
We are currently on summer break; check back in with updates later this Fall! Peace Lutheran Church serves a tasty and friendly dinner for the community and our congregation from 5:30-6:00pm on Wednesdays. Please note that peanut products may be served.
Anyone who wants to make a freewill donation to cover the cost of their meal is welcome to do so, but it isn’t necessary.
If you are interested in volunteering to help serve the meal, there are sign-up sheets in the Fellowship Hall.
We provide delicious lunches to families and adults Monday-Thursday all summer long. In a typical summer, we’ll serve around 2,000 lunches. Volunteer roles include: phone coordinators, food prep volunteers, team leaders, lunch room attendants and substitutes. All volunteers need to be screened and go through Child Safety training.
Peace provides a week’s worth of food plus a full holiday meal for families in need in our community and our congregation at Thankgsiving, Christmas and Easter. At Christmas we also provide a gift for each child in the family. Holiday baskets are packed on the Monday evening before the holiday and delivered or prepared for pick up on Tuesday morning
We work with CEAP and area schools to provided necessary items for people in need in our community. Items collected throughout the year include school supplies and backpacks, hats, mittens, outwear and underwear. (You don’t want to miss the Blessing of the Underwear on Undie Sunday!) We also prepare Military Care packages & Homeless Care kits annually.
Volunteers from Peace deliver hot meals to shut-ins in the community. Peace drives every nine weeks and has to have 12 drivers every day that week.
Peace members work together using donated fabric to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief, Habitat for Humanity and other charitable organizations. Quilters meet the fourth Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00am.
Our congregation is very involved in the process of celebrating God’s grace through worship. Check out the opportunities below and if you are interested in becoming involved, please contact the office for information.
Help prepare altar for Holy Communion. Some Altar Guild members prepare the elements on Friday or Saturday morning; others set up and clean up Sunday mornings. New members work with experienced partners for the first few months. One meeting per year at which you sign up for the dates and times you’d like to serve.
Write the Prayers of the People and help lead worship during the 8:30 service. You choose the Sunday and the service. One of the pastors will provide all the information and training you need. Sign up on the bulletin board in the west entrance of the Fellowship Hall.
Help serve Holy Communion during worship. No advance training necessary. Choose the service and the date you’d like to serve and sign up on the bulletin board in the west entrance of the Fellowship Hall. During the 8:30 service Communion Assistants wear white robes, process in together at the beginning of the service and sit in the pew behind the pastors. At 9:45 and 11:00 services Communion Assistants do not wear robes or process in and may sit anywhere near the front.
Greet members and visitors as they enter Peace on Sunday mornings and encourage use of name tags. You choose the Sunday and the service. Sign up on the bulletin board in the west entrance of the Fellowship Hall.
Holy Cranks and Rollers
A group of men and women who care for and change the banners hanging in the worship center several times per year. Contact the church office if you are interested in learning more about this unusual volunteer opportunity.
Handmaidens of the Lord
An ad-hoc group of seamstresses who work on banners, paraments, altar linens and other sewing projects for the Sanctuary.
Read the lesson during Sunday services. The office will send you the reading beforehand so you can practice. If interested, sign up on the bulletin board in the west entrance of the Fellowship Hall.
Help greet worshipers, hand out bulletins, collect offering and generally provide hospitality during worship services.
Create and project announcements and lyrics for the 11:00 ReNew! service. The basic presentations are provided—team members add backgrounds, graphics and animations. Familiarity with Power Point helpful and must have good enough hearing to follow along with the music. No regular meetings. Time commitment is 3-5 hours once a month for six months. Training and equipment provided.
Worship and Music Ministry Team
Works with the pastors and other worship planners who produce the weekly Sunday services as well as the special celebrations and observances of the church seasons. Also oversees the recruitment of readers and greeters for the services and the duties of the Altar Guild. Meets on the first Tuesday of every other month at 6:30pm.
